László Szörényi (1945) - MA from the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest in 1968. After graduation he became a researcher at the Institute of Literary Studies of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, of which he has been the director between 1997–2012. A lecturer at Szeged University since 1973, first as a full professor of neo-Latin literature, and from 2002 as head of the Comparative Studies Department. Between 1991–1995 he was the Hungarian Ambassador to Rome. In 2002 he received the title of Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (Commendatore dell’Ordine al merito della Repubblica Italiana).
Between 1977–2012 he has been the director of the Irodalomtörténeti Közlemények, a periodical on Hungarian philology. A member of the Hungarian Writers’ Association, he has published his literary texts in Hungary and abroad. In 1999 he received the Attila József Literary Prize. He has published numerous studies in literary periodicals and collections of studies in Hungary and other countries, and has taken part in many international congresses. He is a member of numerous international organizations, including the AILC International Comparative Literature Association, the IANLS International Association for Neo-Latin Studies, the International Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies, and is a member of the board of the International Association of Hungarian Studies.
